Drawing on their love of alt-pop, psych and experimental electronic music, pecq is the burgeoning new project of multi-instrumentalist and producer duo Nikò O’Brien (FR/IT) and Hannah (Jakes) Jacobs (UK). The duo’s debut EP follows widespread support for their singles Stranger and Killing Time, including editorial placements from BBC 6 Music, Spotify, Dummy Mag, Spin Mag, Highclouds, David Dean Burkhart and BIRP!, plus a re-release from Parisian label Kitsuné Musique.
Stranger came to life after the COVID-19 pandemic left the duo with a closed studio as a playground. The record reveals the band’s detailed, eclectic brand of alt-pop - expansive production, diy electronics and bittersweet songwriting.
‘The EP is about being stuck in a loop. The songs are about different people, bad decisions, relationships, past and future selves, but they all wound up with this idea of going round and round unable to break the cycle. A theme in our lives in general but maybe also an unconscious reaction to 2020, a year where a lot of people felt trapped’.
